2022.01.17 12:52 machinist_jack Tig welding aluminum HELP!
I'm not a professional welder, but I have some experience with tig welding in general, and on aluminum specifically, but I'm having some trouble. Hopefully someone here can give me some advice.
I'm trying to repair some damage on a chain case for a motorcycle. My first thought was to Tig it to fill the damage and then polish everything up. Here's the problem: with all the usual settings, my pilot arc refuses to stabilize. As soon as I start the arc, it dances and goes all crazy. I can't even start a puddle. It just pops and blows out, making the damage to the case even worse. I thought maybe it was a connection issue, as I usually just attach the clamp to the steel table I'm working on, so I moved the clamp onto the actual workpiece. No change. I have verified I'm on AC.
Here's the kicker: if I flip the case over and try from the inside, I get a nice stable arc and no issues, but from the outside, using the same exact settings, the arc goes nuts.
Is there a possibility that there is some kind of coating on the outside of the case? What else could be causing the failure?
Alternatively, is there another option to fill the damage, in lieu of body filler, that will polish up and look decent? Maybe someone has some recommendations on aluminum brazing rod or solder or something?
Thanks for any advice you guys can give me. As a last resort, it might be possible to grind down past the damage, but I really don't want to run the risk of weakening the case, which could fail later and dump oil all over the place.
For context, the piece in question is an outer chaincase for a 73 Norton commando. I have tried to find out what alloy it is, but have thus far been unable to find anything. I'm not even 100% convinced it's aluminum, although it acts much more like aluminum than stainless, and it seems too light to be stainless anyway.

2022.01.17 12:52 Astro40z Valuation Check My Car
Just wondering what you would value it at since the market is strange right now. Details below:
Car : Fiat Punto Grande 2006 (Blue) / Petrol 1.4L / 74,000 miles
Condition : 7/10 Good, average wear for age. A few stone chips on bonnet. The odd imperfection on paint work. Interior 9/10, everything is perfect but steering wheel is peeling. Only downside passenger window not working (Replaced motor and still doesn’t work)
Full service history, Just passed MOT no advisories, New battery + air filter.
From my research I can get £1,200+ for it but don’t want to be ridiculous since the passenger window isn’t fully working.

2022.01.17 12:52 Little-Marionberry40 Why is my logistic regression giving me an opposite probability?
I created a logistic regression model to predict customer subscription churn based on my company's subscription data. For most if not all instances, the training data consists of instances where people either: a. don't churn and remain subscribers (0) or b. they churn and cancel their subscription (1). There are no instances or data points of people who have cancelled their subscription resubbing.
Therefore, when I print my results and respective percentages and predictions, I should ideally only see predicted cases of people not churning (0 - > 0) or people churning (0 -> 1). However I am seeing instances of the model predicting the reverse(1 - > 0) which isn't presented in the data set. Nor does it really happen at my company.
I was just wondering if this was something common with binary classifications or logregression. Or if there is an error somewhere in my model.

2022.01.17 12:52 fistamendment I miss my best friend.
I know I'm not going to see them again. I know that where they are they're happy and with people who love them. And that has to be good enough, knowing that they're becoming the person they want to be.
I saw them awhile back by accident. We talked and the flow of our conversation, the way we bounced jokes off one another, it felt as natural as breathing.
I asked if I bothered them whenever I reached out and they said "not at all" they just get busy. But any attempt I made was usually ignored. I don't want to force it, I want to be respectful of them and the choices they made, not taint the ending by trying to justify my presence in their life. I owe them that and so much more.
But it doesn't stop the pain. I miss them terribly. But it isn't about me.
