I bought a humidifier last week and it's crazy how good it is for my eczema. Goodbye eye and face eczema and super intense redness on my hands !
I really recommend a good humidifier for remission of eczema in the winter !
(Btw, hubby's psoriasis also got a lot better since we got it!)

2022.01.17 13:33 JustePecuchet Is a further invasion of Ukraine likely and what will be the extent of it?

We currently are swamped in contradicting informations about the situation at the Ukrainian/Russian border and I'm trying to lay down a rough bullet point of what I seem to understand right now. Feel free to add your input or information.
1- The floating number of 100 000 Russian troops at the border seems low for a full scale invasion
This number has been relayed over and over by numerous sources, but is it accurate? The current number of Ukrainian troops available is really hard to tell, but could range between 100 000 and 200 000, with a significant reserve and a mass of inexperienced conscripts.
Although less well equipped than the Russians, there is no indication that Ukrainians would give up without a bitter fight (even though their combat readiness is uncertain). Given these informations, 100 000 troops seems way under the 2:1 or 3:1 ratio you would expect for serious and effective warfare.
Even by adding the Donbas troops, you only get closer to a 1:1 ratio. Is it that the Russians only plan to intimidate? Is it that they have troops waiting in the back, ready to join the Western front?
Recent Twitter videos or pictures like these have been emerging. Although more research would be needed to confirm/infirm their authenticity, they seem to indicate further deployment of the Russian army.
2- The schedule seems tight
We're in the middle of January, which leaves us around two months of solid frozen ground. Two months for invading the whole of Ukraine in the middle of winter seems quite ambitious, if not reckless.
We have no solid evidence that the Russian army has the means to effectively conduct this type of Blitzkrieg effectively. A winter war scenario points more towards a war of secession in the Donbas, a war of attrition by destroying Ukrainian military equipment or a limited territorial invasion.
An attempt at full scale invasion at this time of year really has the potential to be bogged down by Spring, and to drag on for months, leading to terrible levels of destruction and human losses.
3- Can the Russian really move troops ?
Most Russian troops so far have been moved by rail, but bringing and supplying troops on a frontline is another game. Forbe's analyst David Axe recently made the claim that the Russian army only has 400 trucks available. This is way under what would be needed for a full-scale invasion. How true is this claim? Hard to say, but it raises questions about the true capabilities of the Russian army beyond parading.
4- The false-flag attack claims are imprecise
The information is circulating in every news sources, but we have no clue of the evidence the US has for such a claim. Conflict situations are notoriously hard to figure out, and we have to consider every information we get as false in the first place. If it is the case, we can ask ourselves what is the US intent here?
Do they really know something is happening and want the Russians to know they're being watched? Russian government has a tendency to lie in the open and to repeat the lie so often it becomes true. It wouldn't be far-fetched, but we can't be sure.
5- The cyberattack's intent was destructive
This article by Microsoft seems to point out that the cyberattack conducted this weekend intended to "render targeted devices inoperable rather than to obtain a ransom". This could either be intimidation or preliminary attacks leading to an invasion. We have no clue about the scope of the attack, since the Ukrainian government won't tell the extent of the damage, but it does seem to indicate the beginning of an escalation.
CONCLUSION: According to Michael Kofman, we are still a few weeks away for Russians to be able to launch an invasion. The troops aren't currently at the border, but close to the border, and the support personal (nurses, doctors, truckers, and so on) hasn't been moved entirely to the region from what we know so far.
Keeping such a large force combat-ready for months is impossible. So, if an invasion does happen, it will probably be in the coming weeks. This is still a very tight schedule for a full-scale invasion.
Belarusian territory could be used for a faster route to Kiev, but there is no certainty that Kiev would fall easily, a war could bog down or lead to an asymmetric warfare scenario that would drag on for years.
This makes a lower scale scenario more likely, a recent example could be Georgia, where destroying military material and infrastructure could be the intent, with a small territorial foothold on the Ukrainian territory being necessary.
It could still be a bluff, but given the rule of thumb that we should judge politics by what they are actually doing and not by what they are saying, what we see is a significant mobilization of troops near Ukraine. The problem is that it still is quite easy to open the door of a conflict, while it is much harder to close it. Long term consequences of this warmongering are still hard to figure out.

2022.01.17 13:33 Sebastian-S Will another amp make an audible difference for me?

Hello!
I’m new to this community, but I’m a longtime home theater enthusiast and audiophile. I’ve been a B&W fan for 20 years and own a pair of 802Ds as my main speakers.
I don’t believe in snake oil products and have always been of the opinion that amps don’t matter as much, as long as there is enough clean power available.
I use a Denon 4520 to power my 6.2 system and am very happy with the sound. I sit in the near field and generally listen at low to medium levels. I use the Denon’s DAC and built in Spotify app to listen to stereo music.
The B&W are relatively sensitive at 90db but have a reputation to by hard to drive since it dips to 2ohms. I’ve recently been thinking about trying a new dedicated stereo amp at home in a blind test to decide for myself how much of a difference an amp makes and whether there’d be any improvement in SQ.
I’ve been looking at multiple brands, mostly pre owned, and am interested in Classe and Rotel. I don’t have a clear budget yet, as I’m not convinced there would be a sound improvement - but I would like to make sure I’m getting the most out of my speakers. I’m familiar with most reviews out there, but would like to A/B blind test myself to determine whether I can hear a difference at all.
What are your thoughts on the difference an amp would make in my situation?
Thanks so much! Seb

2022.01.17 13:33 Groundbreakingup dealing with this round of snow: when to shovel?

Maine wisdom needed :)
So I've got about 2 inches of snow so far and the forecast says that the snow will change to rain in early afternoon. Should I shovel when it starts raining so that the current snow will not become ice on my deck and driveway? Or should I just leave it as what it is and deal with it when the storm stops (maybe tomorrow morning...)? My hunch tells me that I should shovel when the snow changes into rain, but I am not sure if this is correct.
