2021.10.18 18:29 zacheryed Question about Bean Bag Color Theory
I watched the show over the weekend, and I've spent all morning reading stuff here and watching stuff on YouTube, and everyone is talking about this theory where the people who chose the blue bean bag are players, and the red bean bag are workers. And it's an interesting theory, but it leaves me with one question:
How does this explain why all the players are children?
Early on in the show (I think it's after the honeycomb game?) a player goes rogue, grabs a worker as a hostage, and makes him remove his mask. When the worker does, the player notes how young he is, and then kills himself.
The way I read this scene was that the workers were kidnapped orphans or something who grew up on the island and were trained from a young age to lack empathy and carry out these games. But as far as I can remember, this mystery was never solved.
I got the impression that this kid was young young, not like young adult with massive student loan debt young, so the bean bag color theory, if true, would eliminate this plot thread's relevance. Has anyone discussing this theory worked through this hole yet? I'm curious if there's an answer to make it work.
But also, I think the bean bag color was more about a different theme of the show
Gi-Hun picked blue because it's the color that goes first. He knew he didn't have the money to pay up if he lost, so he put everything on going first and winning right away. The reason every player in the game chose blue is because they took the same risk. The Salesman is looking for people who are bold and desperate because only the truest of gamblers would make for entertaining contestants.
Throughout the games, Gi-Yun is mostly hanging out in the back, observing what's going on, and honestly kind of lucking his way through survival. Sang-Woo even calls him out on it after the bridge game.
But then going into the final game, Gi-Yun wins the coin toss, and chooses to play offense. Just like with the bean bag game, he knew that all he needed to do was score once, and he would win everything. Instead of the color choice being about figuring out who is a player and who is a worker, I think it is more of a final test to figure out which candidates are worth an actual invitation.
I think one of the messages of the show is that feeling sorry for yourself and depending on others won't fix your problems. The show obviously makes a lot of social commentary points, and maybe one of them is that the whole pull yourself up by your boot straps/survival of the fittest rhetoric has some truth behind them; it's just a darker, more difficult to achieve truth than anyone will admit. Gi-Yun only wins because he puts his destiny in his own hands for the final game, and that's the reason why only people who picked blue made it in as players. The lesson is that we all need to play a more active role in our destiny.
But what are your thoughts? Did I miss something with the plotline of the workers being so young? Am I overthinking the whole offense versus defense theme of the show? Please comment your thoughts cuz I can't talk about this show enough!

2021.10.18 18:29 Protowriter469 Re: Fairest of Them All
"What was the grading criteria for this?" Complained the first of a pile of letters which had been accumulating in the editor's mailbox. "And more importantly, how did she achieve this 'fairness'? If you ask me, there is something inherently UNfair about grading a woman's worth on her looks without considering, say, any hard-pressed servitude or unstable family drama she might have endured. Hypothetically. Please retract this article. You have until midnight." It was signed "Cinderella."
The editor sighed and set the letter down and picked up the next one. He opened the heavy, expensive-looking envelope and unfolded the professional stationary to see only three words: "Copycat trash. Aurora."
He ruffled through the stack, searching for a letter which was not heavy or perfumed or heavily perfumed. He retrieved a slightly damp envelope and peeled the flap open, pulling out an inky, translucent letter from inside.
"FIRST TIME USE PENCIL. NOT GOOD. NO PENCIL IN OCEAN. SNOW WHITE MORE LIKE PASTY WHITE. DEMAND RECOUNT. -
AREL AREIL AREEL ARIEL" followed by crude drawings of fish.
The next one in line, a glittering cardstock with wisps of white fog falling from its sides, caught the tired man's attention. He broke the letter's seal, a yellow flower on green and purple wax, and pulled the tri-fold letter from the envelope.
I first wanted to thank you for your work bringing awareness to the issues surrounding contemporary monarchies and the women who have been tasked to lead their nations. You have rightly claimed in your August issue that the rate of female leaders has, in recent years, increased dramatically the world over. Despite this shake-up of gender norms in places of governance, you observed that the economies and prosperities of these countries has not diminished, as so many antiquated sexist tropes might have suggested, but flourished. You defended your points with inscrutable detail and data which had earned your publication a place in my mind as a journalistic exemplar beyond reproach.
Or so I thought.
This past issue claimed, without evidence or supporting testimony, that Snow White, a mere figurehead in her country who earned her royalty through gullibility and questionable company, is the "fairest" of all princesses.
I am shocked by the sexist overtones of this article and I hope you will consider correcting this egregious mistake in your next issue.
Perhaps, when you have prepared to make such a bold claim in the future, you will begin your search with more distinguished princesses and queens.
From the top of my head, I can think of a prime candidate in Arendelle.

2021.10.18 18:29 cxmachi Owners of the Kondor Blue A7SIII cage and an A7iii, does it still fit an A7iii?
Been trying to look for an answer to this. I first asked Kondor Blue directly but they've been pretty unresponsive.
Reason I ask is because using a cage with a QR is huge for me for going from a gimbal to to a fully kitted cage on a tripod (currently using a SmallRig half-cage with QR, but would like to use a right handle). But I'm still using an A7iii.
I'd like to purchase the Kondor Blue cage for now to use on my A7iii, then eventually use the same cage when getting an A7S3 in the future. Anyone have the cage and both cameras do a test fit?
